Cloudy Water
Often homeowners notice that their tap water is cloudy or milky and wonder if it’s safe to drink. What exactly causes cloudy drinking water and how can you improve it? You can’t tell what exactly the cause of cloudy water is just by looking at it, so it is always a good idea to get your water tested on a regular basis to make sure that there are no harmful pollutants in your water supply. The presence of metals, minerals or bacteria may all be potential causes. Additionally, hard water might be causing the appearance of cloudy water and if this is the case a water softener can help to clear up and soften your water, which in turn will help to protect your pipes.

Iron is known for the orange and brown stains which are caused when ferrous iron is exposed to oxygen. These unsightly stains can be seen in toilets, bathtubs, showers, sinks, dishwashers, and washing machines. Manganese leaves a brownish-black stain on laundry, plumbing, and fixtures.

Sulfur Smell (Rotten Egg Smell)
If your water smells like Sulfur, contact us today.
The presence of “sulfur bacteria” or hydrogen sulfide in your plumbing system. Hydrogen sulfide gas causes the smell. This is mostly found in well water or groundwater.

Chlorine
If you have chlorine odor, contact us today.
Chlorine in drinking water can cause water to smell or taste like chlorine and can cause drying of your skin as well as unmanageable hair. Drinking water is considered safe as long as the chlorine/chloramine levels do not exceed 4 milligrams per liter. While this may seem alarming, the good news is that this doesn’t necessarily mean that your home’s water is contaminated. Below this level, there are no known harmful health effects. When either of these two chemicals is found in large doses, it can become harmful.

Hard Water
If you have hard water, you might be able to tell if your shower gets a buildup of soap scum, your pipes are clogged by water scale, or your freezer produces cloudy ice cubes. Hard water can not only cause costly issues for plumbing systems and home appliances, but it can also harm people’s skin and hair.

PFAS/PFOS Forever chemical- K5 reverse osmosis
This means there is Poly- and Perfluoroalkyl Substances, known as PFAS, in your water. You will need a K5 reverse osmosis. Our K5 Reverse Osmosis was one of the first certified Reverse Osmosis units at PFAS removal and reduction.
The toxic synthetic ‘forever chemicals’ never break down, and once they are in the environment, they are always there. PFAS chemicals are used in manufacturing non-stick cookware, stain-fighting cleaners, microwavable popcorn bags, waterproof products, and firefighting solutions primarily in aqueous film-forming foam.

Blue/Green Staining
This means there is staining/acidic water.
Staining of this type is the result of the corrosion of copper pipes or fixtures. The primary culprit is the pH balance of your water. The lower the pH, the more acidic the solution in the water. Corrosion of copper pipes can create several issues for homeowners. You can test the pH of your water to ensure that your water has the right pH balance to reduce the risk of copper corrosion. Usually, raising the pH levels of your water will help to eliminate corrosion and staining and will ensure that your water is safe and healthy to drink.

Solved my hard water problem in about 4 hours!
"Solved my hard water problem in about 4 hours! The previous owner of the house installed a whole home filtration system, but it wasn't stopping the huge amount of chlorine or hardness from Spotsylvania County water. Nick, the installer, went over every section of the system to help me understand how it works, and how to maintain the system, which is minimal - open the lid, if the salt is low, add some more...simple. A small leak happened overnight and he was back the next day to fix it. I would definitely recommend Mermaid to my friends or anyone who is looking for a water-softening system."- Jeffrey C. -

"First and foremost I want to acknowledge the Exceptional customer service from Russ, an installer/repair guy at Mermaid Water. Due to some special requests I had for my installation, I had to have installers out here 3 times. Russ was here the first time and did a great job and was extremely professional and very easy to work with. The second guy that came out was ok but didn't do the job right. I requested Russ to come out and fix the issue from the previous guy and again, Russ did a great job. It is rare to find someone as genuinely interested in what the customer wants and in ensuring everything is as expected before leaving. Thanks for the great work, Russ.

"We have hard, acidic well water in our house and, as a result, have had numerous problems with our well and our water system (plus every appliance in our house that uses water). Our water stopped working last night--AGAIN--so we called Mermaid. They sent out a technician first thing this morning. He did a thorough check of our water system and found that the well pump is not working, so we will have to call another company for that service. Mermaid's technician, Nick, was knowledgeable and professional and explained each check he performed. He took a lot of time to diagnose the problem but did not charge a service fee since he wasn't able to correct the problem. Great service, would definitely recommend this company.

"We were so impressed with the customer service we received from the minute we decided to call Mermaid Water. We were also impressed they showed up when they said they would and on time! We didn't know what kind of system we needed, just that we were tired of having iron stains on our tubs & toilets & having very hard well water. Randy went over all our options & helped us find the best system for our house & budget. They came out the very next week (they gave us a 2-hour window and were actually early) and installed our new Kinetico water system within 1.5 hrs as estimated. The team they sent (Josh & his assistant -sorry so bad with names)were so knowledgeable & efficient. They both were very friendly and even liked our dogs! I'm not great at reviews but I just had to take the time to let everyone know you can't go wrong with Mermaid Water and we are very satisfied with our entire experience.
